With school starting recently, the beginning of flu and cold season will soon be upon us.
The flu vaccine is recommended for those 6 months of age and older. High risk groups include children with asthma, diabetes and other chronic illnesses. Pregnant women, or families with a newborn at home, are also groups that are strongly encouraged to get a flu vaccine.
We currently have preservative free Flu Shots available for children 6 months – 3 years of age. We can also accommodate others that prefer a preservative free vaccine if supply permits. We do offer Flu Mist (the intranasal flu vaccine) as a non-injection option for those 2 years of age and older. We also have flu vaccine available for children > 3 years of age.
This year’s vaccine does include the 2009 novel H1N1 strain, as well as two other strains felt to be dominant this season. All children under 8 years of age who are receiving the flu vaccine for the first time will need two doses given one month apart to ensure full protection. Everyone else will only require one dose.
If you are an established patient of the practice you may schedule a nurse visit for your flu vaccine, or you can also make an appointment to see the doctor if you have other concerns.
We are also offering FLU CLINICS on Friday mornings for our established patients. This will begin on September 9th. Please call our office to reserve a spot for a Friday morning if that works well for your schedule.
If you would like to become a new patient of the practice (and we’d love to have you!), please call to set up an appointment.
We are happy to provide adults and caregivers with a flu shot if supply permits. We cannot file insurance for adults, so payment would be expected at the time of service.
Best wishes for a happy fall!
Stay Well!
