Sport and camp physicals may be required by your school or camp program to determine if your child is safe to participate in a certain sport or activity.  If you have had a physical done by your primary care doctor within one year prior to beginning a sport, then you may satisfy your school’s requirements.

Please remember that abbreviated sport physicals do not take the place of yearly physicals as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Parents often wonder if their child needs to get a regular yearly physical if they have already had a sports physical…

Camp and sport physicals are different from a standard physical.

A sports physical focuses on the health of your child as it relates to a specific sport or activity.  It is more limited than a regular physical and more specific about athletic issues.  In a regular physical, your doctor will address issues unrelated to sports, focusing on growth and development, anticipatory guidance specific to your child’s age, and other preventative health issues. The doctor will also ensure that all vaccines are up to date.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or if you would like to schedule an appointment.

Stay Well!
